Old Cottages These were the first cottages released. The cottages come in three different roof colors: Blue, Red, Green. The windows and door frames come in two different colors: yellow/beige and grey. The doors themselves come in three different colors: dark brown, yellow/beige and grey. The doors can also have another variation..some of their windows are heart shaped whereas most have the form pictured below on my page (unfortunately I don't have any heart shaped windows on my doors yet). A complete cottage will have always a butterfly on the roof. Despite the picture on the box, most butterflies are yellow with blue lines. As you can see there are many different ways how the cottages can be put together, and this is one of the challenges for the "serious" collector of these. Unless you are able to obtain those cottages unassembled in their original box you can never be sure you have the original version of the cottages. Of course, the markings of the roof and the cottage should be the same, but as to which variation of the windows and doors go with which marking...who can be absolutely sure? Most collectors belief (as do I) that the darker doors and windows go with the HongKong cottages and the lighter colors belong to the W. Germany cottages. I do not claim that my cottages are put together the way they originally were sold. To see how many different variations of these cottages are out there, please visit Sgt.Papas |

Box in which they old houses come in. This box comes in different languages but as far as I know the same pictures are on all the old boxes. |
New Cottages Collecting these newer cottages is a bit easier. Most collectors buy those in their original boxes, and it's not same can be said about the cottage bases and doors, which are also color coordinated. (and boxes) can suddenly show up as happened in the mid of 2008. On a personal note, I have to admit that in case of the newer cottage, I am more into collecting the boxes :) When Irwin released smurfs in the 80s in the US, they did not use the Schleich boxes but their own boxes and included a smurf with it. The cottages themselves were pretty much the same as the cottages released in the Schleich box at the time..but since the boxes are different, I consider them variations :) |

Smurfette's Cottages Smurfette's Cottages have always stood out because of it's coloring. The old cottage is very pink. The newer one is obviously darker. |

This cottage was sold to me in the new box which is wrong, as this solid careful and have to ask questions before buying anything on ebay (where I bought it) if you are interested in buying the original combination. |
