Raw smurfs (Rohlinge) |
Raw smurfs are unpainted smurfs. While there are many different ones available, it is highly debatable how many of them are genuine raw smurfs. Most of them are genuine Schleich or Bully smurfs but they probably have been stripped of their coloring in the hope of reaching a higher market value. Stripping smurfs of their colorings is relatively easy, all you need is alcohol or other chemicals. However, with time these chemicals will make the PVC brittle or rough. The question is...are these smurfs still genuine or should they be considered fakes. I have decided that since they are genuine Schleich/Bully items, I will consider them originals that were stripped. As mentioned though, not all are stripped, there are genuine raw smurfs available, how they came on the market is not always knows. Since smurfs are hand painted it is fairly easy for the painters to put some aside and sell them or give away in their original unpainted state. Others may have been put aside because of some defect in the PVC..and others were given away by Schleich themselves to special friends. My nurse raw is such a one, which was given to a seller for her personal collection by Schleich. When she sold her collection, she sold this nurse smurf as well. I have taken this nurse smurf as "muster" to compare my other raw smurfs with. It should also be mentioned that most solid colored raw smurfs are probably promo smurfs from the German chocolate firm Waldbaur and also Nestle. These are easily recognizable by their painted eyes and mouths. There are at least six confirmed Waldbaur smurfs (confirmed by a box(which I don't have) that they come in. I believe the others are from Nestle. Both are made of very soft PVC. For further reference as to what I consider each of my raws, please see my comments under each of my smurfs. Please note that this is my personal opinion only. |
